An experience inside the Kaetés RPPN, a private nature reserve recognised by ICMBio that protects 777 hectares of high-altitude Atlantic Forest between Castelo and Vargem Alta.
A forest safari, a climb up the largest nature observation tower in the Atlantic Forest — with views of Forno Grande peak — and a coffee-and-conversation break with local produce.
Kaetés is the place with the most sightings of the cherry-throated tanager (Nemosia rourei), a rare bird endemic to the mountains of Espírito Santo.
Practical information
- Schedule: Starts at 9 am.
- Level: Moderate — easy walking. Access via 12 km of dirt road. Closed shoes required, and bring a jacket (it’s windy on the tower). Not accessible for wheelchair users or blind visitors.
